Jim Smiley Teaching Award

The Immunology and Infection undergraduate program is graced with many wonderful instructors who have left a profound impact on students. The Jim Smiley Teaching Award was started in 2023 to honor the many contributions of Dr. Jim Smiley to the IMIN program.

The first recipient was Dr. Jim Smiley himself, and subsequent recipients will be voted for annually by students of that year’s graduating IMIN class (those who are in 4th year and above*). The intention of this award is to recognize excellence and dedication to teaching undergraduate students in the Immunology and Infection program.

Using the form linked below we encourage you to nominate a professor based on the following criteria:

1. Efforts and dedication to providing excellent instruction

2. Demonstrates enthusiasm and passion for instructing

3. Provides outstanding support towards students regarding their learning

Please nominate a professor you believe should receive this award, who has taught either an IMIN or an MMI undergraduate course. We ask that all entries include a brief explanation as to why this professor was nominated, and these notes will be shared with the recipient when the award is given. The professor who receives the most nominations will win the award, which will be presented to them at our 2024 Graduation Banquet.

We have included an option to list a second choice, which will be used to decide the award recipient in the event of a tie, however it is not mandatory to fill out this field.

Please note that your responses will be anonymous.

*For the purpose of this award, all students in their 4th year and above are eligible to vote for this award's recipient, even if they are not graduating in June 2024.
